BIODYNAMIC AGRICULTURE
Biodynamic agriculture is an organic farming method drawn
up by Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s. Biodynamic farming looks
upon the earth - with its minerals, plants and animals - as
a single great living organism and avails itself of an in-depth
knowledge of the laws governing these natural kingdoms to
apply a method that respects and fosters the life of the earth-organism.
Biodynamic farming does not simply exclude the use of chemical
fertilizers and pesticides but actively promotes the need
to increase soil vitality and fertility, and consequently
the quality of produce, through specific fertilization and
farming techniques.
Essentially, biodynamics is an ecological farming approach
based on the preservation and intensification of soil life
in all its animal and plant components, however microscopic,
and is represented by a holistic view of the farm, by a constant
focus on the bonds and affinities (not necessarily strictly
material ones) linking the farmer and his farm to the local
environment, in the richest and most extensive sense of the
word.
